Woman charged for making cannabis ointment

At same time, lawmakers discuss lighter penalties

January 23rd, 2008 issue

(Updated Jan. 28, 2008) Police charged a South Bohemian woman with illegal drug production because she makes a cannabis ointment to sooth burns and joint pains, Mladá fronta Dnes reports.

Libuše Bushka Bryndová has other cannabis recipes for chocolate candy, cream and hamburgers.

And she is open about smoking marijuana.

Lawmakers have been considering lower penalties for small-scale recreational drug growers. Under the current law anyone who makes drugs or possesses them can go to jail for one to five years if they’re caught.

If the new Criminal Code passes, marijuana growers would face six months in jail if they produce moer than an amount deemed to be for their own use. Possession, manufacture, transport or sale of both “light” drugs like marijuana and “hard” drugs like cocaine and heroin would continue to be regarded as a criminal activity with penalties of up to 15 years in jail if leading to injury or death.
